Children begin their educational journey at the Early Learning Center, learning through play and exploration. This school is designed exclusively for the education of preschool children. Four-year-old kindergarten is an optional program for students, and is a wonderful introduction to kindergarten.

The Early Learning Center is the first formal partnership between local schools and parents with a goal to provide services that enhance the parents’ role as the first and primary educators of their children. Parents have many wonderful opportunities to interact with their child throughout their time at the Early Learning Center. The Early Learning Center promotes student development in learning the social and academic skills needed to prepare for kindergarten. Instruction is developmentally appropriate in an environment that values cultural diversity and nurtures a love of learning.
The Early Learning Center focuses on literacy and math skills to match instruction to the individual needs of each child. Teachers provide large group, small group, and one on one instruction. Pre-school students are hands-on learners by nature and are more engaged when using technology. The Early Learning Center has iPads, SmartBoards and a computer lab available for students to use. These devices teach students curricular information related to literacy, math and science. They also reinforce taking turns, social skills, cooperation and problem solving.
Family involvement is a critical component of early childhood programs at the Early Learning Center. Parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. Therefore, it is essential that they be actively involved in their children’s education. A variety of family involvement options are available including frequent family visits, parent education workshops, opportunities to volunteer in the classroom and parent-child activities. School activities, like the Open House and Gingerbread House Making promote partnerships with families.

The Early Learning Center has adopted the Wisconsin Pyramid Model, which is a framework that offers different levels of support and strategies to parents and professionals to promote social and emotional development for all children and reduce challenging behavior.
District wide developmental screening program. Families are invited by mail to have their child screened when he/she turns three years of age. Referrals for further evaluation are made, if appropriate. Information about various community resources is provided. The service is provided at no charge to the parent, and all information gathered is confidential
CHILD FIND is a developmental screening program for young children living in the Sheboygan Area School District. CHILD FIND screening helps identify if a child is appropriately developing both physically and emotionally. At the screening site, school professionals are on hand to answer questions parents may have about their child’s development. In addition, information about a variety of community resources is available.
CHILD FIND can be the first step in referring a child into an appropriate special education program. The Sheboygan Area School District operates special education programs for children and students ages 3 to 21. Helping children with exceptional education needs as early as possible often results in more children becoming productive, responsible citizens.
The CHILD FIND service is provided at no charge to the parent, and all information gathered is confidential. Below are some signs that may be cause for concern. (Please remember one sign alone may not mean there is a problem.)
